Privacy Notice

This Notice provides information about the processing and use of personal data provided by subscribers to the MIMA newsletter through MIMA’s website. We shall process your personal data in accordance with the General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018.

1.   What ‘personal data’ do we collect?

We collect data such as your name and email address, postal address and telephone number and record certain preferences indicated when you subscribe to our newsletter through MIMA’s website.

2.  Where will my data be stored?

Your data will be stored securely on a CRM system managed by Teesside University as well as in an electronic contact list held by MIMA.

3.  What will my personal data be used for?

Your personal data will be used for the purposes of keeping you informed about MIMA, including exhibitions and events taking place at MIMA. It may also be used for the purposes of inviting you to particular events that are considered based on your preferences to be of interest to you. It may additionally be used for research or statistical purposes.

4.  What is the purpose and legal basis of the processing?

Your personal data will be processed either with your express consent or lawfully on the basis of legitimate interest.  Where your data is used for research or statistical purposes it will be processed in the public interest.

5.  Who will my personal information be shared with?
Your data will be shared with Teesside University. Where you have consented, your data will be shared with the Arts Council.

6. How can I access my personal information?

You can access the personal information that is held by us by writing to MIMA at Middlesbrough Institute of Modern Art, Centre Square, Middlesbrough, TS1 2AZ or by email addressed to mima@tees.ac.uk.

In addition to this, you also have the right to ask us to correct any inaccurate personal information we hold about you, to delete personal information, or otherwise restrict our processing, or to object to processing or to receive an electronic copy of the personal information you provided to us.

7.  How long is my information kept?

We store your personal information until you tell us you no longer wish to subscribe to our newsletter. You may unsubscribe at any time by clicking on the link to unsubscribe contained in all our emails.

8.  Changes to this notice

We reserve the right to update this privacy notice at any time. We may also notify you in other ways from time to time about the processing of your personal information.

9.  How do I complain?

If you are not happy with the way your information is being handled, or with the response received from us, you have the right to lodge a complaint with the Information Commissioner’s Office at Wycliffe House, Water Lane, Wilmslow, SK9 5AF (https://ico.org.uk/).


MIMA’s website does not actively capture or store personal information when the site is visited. However, the IPaddress, duration of visit and type of browser may be logged.  Cookies may be used by MIMA’s website to track sessions for collection of statistical information. This is recognised by the Web Server and is used for system administration purposes and to provide statistics. Individuals cannot be identified from this data.

Personal Information may be collected when E-mails are sent to the addresses detailed on the Website. Under the Data Protection Act 1998, Teesside University is the Data Controller of any personal information collected via this site and has a duty to protect and use it in accordance with the data protection principles.

By using this website you consent to the collection and use of your information as set out above.

MIMA Cookie Policy

Information about you is only collected through this website where you knowingly provide it for a specified purpose, for example requesting our newsletter, booking events, or submitting queries.
