Derek Eland: Diary Rooms opens at mima

10 November 2014

Tuesday 11 November sees Derek Eland: Diary Rooms open here at mima.

In 2011 Derek Eland worked as an official War Artist embedded with the British Army in Helmand, Afghanistan. Diary Rooms describes the results of Derek’s time there. He visited Afghanistan to create a ‘Diary Room’ experience for front line soldiers, both British and Afghan, by providing them with blank cards and offering them the opportunity to write down their immediate thoughts.

On Tuesday 11 November we will be joined by Derek, and former Irish Guardsman Colum McGeown, who took part in Diary Rooms, as they give an an opening talk from 12.30– 1.30pm. Find out more about the event here.

We will also be hosting Derek Eland In Conversation on Saturday 22 November, 1.00-3.30pm. mima in partnership with Contemporary Art Society will present a special afternoon event, where Derek will be speaking about his extraordinary life, practice and acclaimed exhibition Diary Rooms. This will be followed by an opportunity for the audience to ask questions and to tour the exhibition with Derek himself. Free, book here.
