Mind the Gap – Fine Art students and graduates from Teesside University

4 December 2014

Mind the Gap on Thursday 27 November saw Fine Art students and graduates from Teesside University come together to connect directly with arts organisations and artist led projects from across the region. This allowed them to network and find out more about emerging opportunities. Organisations included mima, Platform A, North East Creative Timebank, Navigator North, The House of Blah Blah, Artist Residencies (AA2A), Gilkes Street Artists and independent practitioners.

As part of the event Platform A artists Tony Charles and Annie O’Donnell led a workshop exploring the theme ‘Making Matters’, the title of their recent exhibition. Vicky Holborough and Nicola Golightly from Navigator North led a mapping of what opportunities and support are available exploring key areas of fame, money, skills, space and information. Dave Allinson and Michelle Tripp were also on hand to answer questions on their AA2A artist residency at Teesside University. Graduating artists came armed with questions about how they can best prepare to work professionally in the creative industries.

All were invited to an Art Supper with mima’s Director, Alistair Hudson, who gave an overview of his career path and his ambitions for mima.

The event was organised by mima Visual Art Network and Teesside University. To find out more about how mima is working with artists across Tees Valley contact Kerrie Page at kerrie.page@tees.ac.uk.
