We are looking for submissions of original poetry, writing and spoken word pieces for Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark

14 October 2014

Coming up on Friday 24 October is Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark, which will see Middlesbrough town centre transformed for one night only – with outdoor film screenings, mysterious art installations and special events.

This free programme of creative happenings has been curated by Teesside based multidisciplinary artist Nicky Peacock, who is looking for participants for two of the events taking place during this evening.

The Telling Tales event from 6-7pm will see our Education Space transformed into a cosy den, and we are looking for participants to read their favourite scary stories or dark tales by lamplight. If you would like to sign up to this event, please email nicky_peacock@middlesbrough.gov.uk to reserve a space.

Nicky is also looking for submissions of original poetry, writing and spoken word pieces relating to the theme of darkness to be broadcast to the town centre via Middlesbrough’s world famous CCTV tannoy system. We would like your piece read aloud by a child, recorded in any way you like (no background noise please) and sent in mp3 format or similar. These recordings will be played on a loop throughout the evening. The theme of darkness is very open but we would appreciate no profanity or excessive sexual or violent language. Please make sure that the young person reading your piece includes the author’s name and age. To submit a recording please email nicky_peacock@middlesbrough.gov.uk.

Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark is part of the Discover Middlesbrough Festival and is funded by Middlesbrough Council.
