Image: Angus Suttie, Cup and Stand 1988, Earthenware

Angus Suttie, Scotland, 1946-1993

This energetic and joyful ceramic piece plays with the conventional shape of a teapot. The work is composed of two separate forms which may represent interlocking human bodies. These hand-built angular objects are decorated with an assortment of striped, stippled and wavy patterns in high colour. Angus Suttie was active in sexual politics, with his creative output connected to his experiences as a gay man. In 1976 Spring issue of the Gay Left he describes his practice and his identity in the article From Latent to Blatant: A personal account.
